Fiordland Expeditions also offer winter overnight cruises on Doubtful Sound. This is an excellent time of year to visit Fiordland. Though cooler there are many fine clear blue sky days and with the snow capped mountains the vistas are truely amazing.

The vessel is very cozy too so you can experience Fiordland from the comforts of within the boat or with an added layer of clothing, you can view from our spacious decks.

Winter is also when the Tawaki or Fiordland Crested Penguin set up their roosts around the islands and shores. The local family of Bottlenose Dolphins are often seen and the ever present fur seals (kekeno) are allways good to watch. A winter Doubtful Sound Overnight Cruise allows more time than a day cruise for looking at the wildlife and scenery.

The fishing can offer superb results with the much prized Blue Cod being the local favourite, a delicate flesh with superb flavour. Topped with crew diving for lobster (crayfish we call them) your dinning experience will be memorable for sure.

Kayaking is an excellent way to get up close and personal with this wilderness, away from the noises of civilisation it is an awesome experience to hear nature uninterupted.

The Ship

Although TUTOKO II is 20m long we carry a maximum of 14 passngers in an assortment of accommodations. The size ensures there is plenty of room for everybody to find their own personal space to enjoy the experience if they choose.

When Do We Operate

We operate Mon, Wed, and Sat nights over the winter period from now until the 31st Oct.

Trip Duration

Our trips are almost two days long as they depart from Manapouri on Day 1 at 0945hrs and arrive back at Manapouri on Day 2 at 1730hrs (5.30pm)

Cabin Configuration

The Tutoko II has three levels of accommodation:

Premium Private Cabin - has a double bed with single berth above and own private en suite facilities inluding shower toilst and wash basin.
Economy Private Cabin - has a double bed with single berth above and shared toilet/shower facilities
Bunkroom - has six single berths and own toilet with wash basin. Shower facilities are shared.
